Southeast Asia’s (SEA) wine industry could not have reached its present state of development without the commitment of the industry pioneers who entered the market as early as the 1970s and 1980s. These pioneers have gone beyond the call of duty to advance the region’s wine landscape. Wine is today a major underpinning pillar of the tourism and lifestyle industries in Asia. It has also adds a new dimension to the ‘savoir vivre’ of Asian consumers.

The SEA Wine Pioneer Recognition Award gives the due recognition to these dedicated wine pioneers in each of the Southeast Asian countries.

Selection Process
The selection process of the Award is as follows:

1. A panel of three judges is formed in each participating Southeast Asian country to shortlist qualifying candidates from their respective countries.
2. A total of 10 candidates will be shortlisted.
3. Candidates are selected from the service and wine distribution sectors.
4. Shortlisted candidates will in turn select among themselves, the most deserving candidates through a confidential voting system.
5. Final awardees are selected.

The awardees are recognised for their significant contribution to the wine industry. The criteria for selection are as follows.

1. Instrumental in bringing in a portfolio of top wine brands into the country, hence helping raise the country’s profile of an important wine destination market.
2. Committed to increasing wine appreciation in the country through wine promotion and educational activities.
3. Is currently still involved in the wine industry and has been active since the infancy of the wine industry in the country. Those who may no longer be with us, but had devoted their lives to the industry will also be considered.
4. Unique personal contribution to the wine industry.

The awardees will be invited to receive the SEA Wine Pioneer Recognition Award in Singapore on 26 October 2011.
